KIBRAHACHA

Tabebuia aurea

The Kibrahacha is a native ornamental tree that is normally inconspicuous, but after heavy rainfall during dry seasons, it suddenly bursts into a spectacular yellow bloom. Unfortunately, the bloom often lasts only a few days, which makes this tree unique and symbolic for Bonaire's natural environment. In Papiamento, "kibra hacha" means "broken axe," referring to its hard wood.
